person who was tasked to upgrade from I think 3.0 to 3.3 could not initially get the upgrade process to complete

It seems that there was a fix for similar bug back in phpBB 3.1.0-RC1 so I'd check if \phpbb\profilefields\manager.php file is up to date (and public function update_profile_field_data in particular) because in phpBB 3.3.12 there's no sql_query() call on the line 302 as is on the screenshot of the error.
And also \config\default\container\services_profilefield.yml and the content of \phpbb\profilefields\type\ folder (at least).
